Our New CEO, Corin Hawthorne, landed running in his new role…. so much so that we haven’t had time to make this official announcement!

Corin has over 20 years experience working at the top end of interior fit-out, working on large high specification projects, Prime & Superprime homes, and cruise ship interiors internationally.

Notable projects include: One Hyde Park, Disneyland Paris, McLaren Technology Centre, Harrods, Selfridges, The Knightsbridge, London Hilton Metropole, The Scottish Parliament, and Intercontinental Hotel Park Lane.

So Corin’s knowledge and expertise is EXACTLY what Tactility Factory needs and we look forward to a bright, energetic, dynamic future.

US Patent : ‘a notice of allowance’

04_06Iamge1

Good News for TF: we obtained ‘a notice of allowance’  (end of March 2014) to obtain a US patent for the technology we developed and use in Tactility Factory.

‘Notice of allowance’ means once we pay the prerequisite fees (!) we will receive a US patent.

The process of patenting the technology began in Feb 2009 so that’s over 5years to bring it to this stage. That’s a long time! but it’s a significant marker for Tactility Factory founders to obtain a US patent!

Investment and Tetrahedrons

On Feb 6th we announced ‘the successful completion of an investment from the University of Ulster Innovation Fund and Queen’s University Belfast Innovation Fund.’

That investment will allow us to move to new premises (still within Weavers’ Court) and bring on new staff!

We’ll be moving into a large production shed and at its heart we will place a new office space – triangular in plan with a tetrahedron roof.

By the end of the summer we are hoping to have compiled a list entitled  ’10 reasons to work under a tetrahedron’

TF, as ever, setting new trends…..

with of course the help of Terry Design

Textile Architecture Event, Dublin

2013-04-30-20.59.30

Trish is speaking tomorrow at an RIAI evening seminar in Dublin on ‘Textile Architecture”

The event launches the Print Block, Exhibition. Print Block is Dublin’s textile print collective and it presents its site specific textile works for the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI), at No. 8 Merrion Square, Dublin 2 from 5-18 November 2013

The exhibition is free to the public and opens during Ireland’s annual design celebration, Design Week, on 5 November 2013.

The evening talks tomorrow on the 5th November will explore the synergy between textiles and buildings. So makes sense for TF to be present, amongst:

Angela Rolfe, Assistant Principal Architect, Office of Public Works, will speak on architect Raymond McGrath’s Decorative Designs.

Liz Nilsson, a Swedish born textile artist, designer and co-founder of Print Block, will explore Sweden’s rich tradition of textiles in the public space – from historic examples to recent textile projects for public buildings.

Trish Belford will discuss Tactility Factory, an innovative, award-winning company initiated by the collaborative practice of Trish Belford (textiles) and Ruth Morrow (architecture).

Olga Tiernan, co-founder of Print Block, will give a brief presentation on Print Block and its innovative practice to date.

Good luck to all speaking.

shipping large packages

Today saw a large shipment leave the Tactility Factory workshop bound for a journey across the ocean.

The one thing wonderful to witness is a forklift delicately manoeuvring large 1 ton boxes through an opening smaller than the boxes themselves. A fine art indeed!
